Heard of the Street

Here are a couple of comments heard of the streets of Nappanee that have not yet been verified:

  • Word is that we will be getting a new Walgreen's Drug store on the SE corner of US 6 and County Road 7. That would put it just across from CVS Pharmacy which sits in front of Martin's Grocery/Pharmacy. That seems to be a pattern in most Indiana communities today with CVS and Walgreen's on the same corner.
  • A sale pending sign is up on the old Dairy Queen building east of town on US 6. Word has it that it is being purchased by a local building contractor. The good news would be that the site would be cleaned up from damage done by the tornado last fall. But please, tell me it isn't true that the site would become a storage building/site for the contractor. Here's hoping it will be rebuilt for commercial use.
  • The Memorial Day Parade this morning would not have been much at all without the high school band. I'm hoping for a settlement between the teachers and the school board and no cuts in the music program.
