Congratulations to Barry Houser for winning one of the three Channel 16 Excellence in Education Awards. We couldn't be more proud; and the award couldn't be more deserved.
According to the story posted on the WNDU web site, Houser received 60% of all the nominations. In his six years of teaching music and leading the band program at NorthWood High School, Houser saw the band program grow from 40 members to over 100 members this past year.
He now moves on the University of Illinois to pursue his Master's degree in conducting while working as the assistant to the director of the marching band. He will also be directing the basketball pep band and work as a teaching assistant to student teachers studying instrumental music.
